{"id":1091,"date":"2020-11-24T16:17:26","date_gmt":"2020-11-24T16:17:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cloud.iseclisboa.pt\/?p=1091"},"modified":"2020-11-24T16:17:26","modified_gmt":"2020-11-24T16:17:26","slug":"curricular-unit-chemistry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cloud.iseclisboa.pt\/?p=1091","title":{"rendered":"CURRICULAR UNIT &#8211; CHEMISTRY"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>CURRICULAR UNIT &#8211;\u00a0CHEMISTRY<\/h4>\n<p>Academic Year:\u00a02020 \/ 2021<br \/>1st\u00a0Year \u2013 1st Semester\u00a0<br \/>C\u00f3digo UC n\u00ba\u00a09021203<\/p>\n<p>OBJECTIVES AND COMPETENCES TO BE DEVELOPED\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The course of Chemistry has 4 objectives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1- to provide relevant information from chemical point of view on aspects related to the area of \u200b\u200bspecialization.<\/li>\n<li>2- to provide comprehensive knowledge about some fundamental concepts in chemistry.<\/li>\n<li>3- to encourage the use of new technologies for learning.<\/li>\n<li>4- to allow direct contact with reagents, laboratory techniques and instrumentation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The student should develop the following skills:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1- understand the constitution of matter and the relationship between the structure of matter and its properties.<\/li>\n<li>2- dominate the calculations leading to the preparation of solutions and calculations of chemical and acid-base equilibrium.<\/li>\n<li>3- dominate the specific concepts addressed in the course.<\/li>\n<li>4- understand and use the relationship between research \/ experience \/ observation and knowledge.<\/li>\n<li>5- report and explain experimental results reporting to modern techniques and theoretical aspects discussed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Student must get the following competencies:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>understand the dynamics of management, its methodologies and the main tools used in companies;<\/li>\n<li>know the main tools of strategic management, especially at the strategic diagnosis;<\/li>\n<li>evaluate the inherent characteristics and aspects of the different functions and functional areas of management;<\/li>\n<li>help in the interpretation of the main constraints in the organizations and in the decision making capacity by the application of the different concepts related to the management;<\/li>\n<li>understand the impacts arising from the law of supply and demand and their effects on the equilibrium of the market (s).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>PROGRAM CONTENTS<\/p>\n<p>1. Matter at the microscopic level<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1.1. atomic theory of matter<\/li>\n<li>1.2. atomic structure of atoms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2. molecules, ions and solutions<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2.1. concept of molecule, ion and ionic compound<\/li>\n<li>2.2. concept of mole and molar mass<\/li>\n<li>2.3. solutions and concentration units<\/li>\n<li>2.4. preparation of solutions and mixtures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3. chemical equilibrium<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3.1. writing and balancing chemical reactions<\/li>\n<li>3.2. incomplete reactions. Notion of limiting reagent and reaction yield<\/li>\n<li>3.3. definition and calculation of the equilibrium constant, problems involving the equilibrium constant<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>4. acid-base equilibrium<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>4.1. concept of acid and base<\/li>\n<li>4.2. concept of pH and pOH and determination the pH of the solutions<\/li>\n<li>4.3. acid-base titrations. Indicators.
